We are well accustomed to the written word as a primary method of communication in our culture. Its primary elements, the characters of the modern alphabet, were once quite literal symbols of everyday objects which were gradually abstracted to the letters of the alphabet. While cave paintings, dating as far back as 20,000 B.C. are the first evidence of recorded pictures, true written communication is thought to have been developed some 17,000 years later by the Summerians, around 3500 B.C. They are known to have recorded stories and preserved records using simple drawings of everyday objects, called pictograms. As civilizations become more advanced, they experienced the need to communicate more complex concepts. Around 3100 B.C., Egyptian hieroglyphics incorporated symbols representing thoughts or ideas, called ideograms, allowing for the expression of more abstract concepts than the more literal pictograms. A symbol for an ox could mean food, for example, or the symbol of a setting sun combined with the symbol for a man could communicate old age or death. By 1600 B.C., the Phoenicians had developed symbols for spoken sounds, called phonograms. For example, their symbol for ox, which they called aleph, was used to represent the spoken sound â€Å"A† and beth, their symbol for house, represented the sound â€Å"B†. In addition to sounds, phonograms could also represent words. Today, our own alphabet contains many such phonograms: % for percent, ? for question, and $ for dollars. It is the Phoenicians who are generally credited with developing the first true alphabet— a set of symbols representing spoken sounds, that could be combined to represent spoken language. They traded with many cultures, spreading their alphabet throughout the Western world. Around 1,000 B.C., the Phoenician alphabet was adapted by the Greeks, who developed the art of handwriting in several styles. The word â€Å"alphabet† comes from the first two Greek letters alpha and beta. Several hundred years later, the Romans used the Greek alphabet as the basis for the uppercase alphabet that we know today. They refined the art of handwriting, fashioning several distinctive styles of lettering which they used for different purposes. They scribed a rigid, formal script for important manuscripts and official documents and a quicker, more informal style for letters and routine types of writing. By A.D. 100, the Romans had developed a fast growing book industry and, as Roman handwriting continued to evolve, lower case letters and rough forms of punctuation were gradually added.

My task is to create a music video that hasn’t been released on the general market

My task is to create a music video that hasn't been released on the general market. This will be done in a group of four consisting of Courtney, Lisa, Tamica and myself. We need to all decide on what song we are going to produce which is no longer than five minutes long. We need to write a narrative synopsis, this will show how the song relates to the images. Also we will need a detailed storyboard because it will help us out on how to shoot the scenes. We all need to decide on locations, props, costumes, castings and soundtracks that we are going to use in our music video. We must do all arrangements in good time management. The song is called ‘separated' and is singed by an artist called Usher Raymond. It's a song sang by usher to his girl. The academic bit, this is done by analyzing our video and see if the genre and conventions plus how media language fits the music video. In this video I will need to contribute in my role as a lead singer Usher, and also help out in planning plus research with the group, give ideas on locations and to be on time on deadlines. In our group everyone needs to know what they're doing and help out on props, costumes and be on time and know their part. My group and I have chosen the solo artist Usher Raymond because we like the lyrics he uses in the song; it's very different from other songs. Also his lyrics can be formed in to images for our music video â€Å"separated†. Usher Raymond was born on the 14th October 1978 in Chattanooga. He is a young R&B singer. Usher is one of the few who can boast of real star quality. He performed at the American Music Awards as part of the all-star recording collaboration Black Men United. The first single to be taken from the album, â€Å"You Make Me Wanna†, was typical of the smooth ballads on offer. Usher was more successful in the UK, where the single debuted at number 2 in February 2001. He returned to the top of the US charts in July with â€Å"U Remind Me†, which premiered the transatlantic hit album 8701. The single â€Å"U Got It Bad† also reached the number 1 position in 2002. We will be using varies of techniques to make this video so that it fits it conventions and also genre. Using similar filming techniques like camera angles will do this and lighting effects also the location of shots need to be accurate would help a lot. In order to make this music video a success we must use certain skills of marketing techniques. The music video needs to be marketed well. This means we need know what customers to target. We need to brand our music video so it could become popular and known form it. There are many genres of music and for us to do well we need to know our genre of music inside out. We need to know what's going to be in and what props we need also how we could do stuff so that our video fits its genre. To match audience's expectation we would need the video to have conventions that follows other pop music videos. These could be fancy cars, big mansions, the high life, boy meets girl, relationship breaking up or clips of them having fun back in the days. Some of pop artists examples are puff daddy, Nelly, Sean Paul. Our music video is going to be targeted at young teenagers. We believe they are our audience for these kinds of songs, also they would find them as pop idols. We would advertise the new single on TV, radio, newspapers and Internet. The TV is because many teenagers plus adults watch it. The radio is a main advertiser for songs because many people have radios in their cars, personal stereos, work place, homes and phones. People will here the single on the radio and if they liked it they would purchase it. Also playing music on the radio would give us a wider range of audiences and may boost our sales up. My group and I have chosen the solo artist Usher Raymond because we like the lyrics he uses in the song; also his lyrics can be formed in to images for our music video â€Å"separated†. Usher Raymond was born on the 14th October 1978 in Chattanooga. He is a young R&B singer. Usher is one of the few who can boast of real star quality. We have previous marketing techniques that we have discussed and analysed so we can use these techniques to make the video a success. Some of our previous marketing techniques discussed were on how where and how to advertise our music videos and also how to target our main audiences. The channels that we have chosen to broadcast the video on We have chosen to broadcast our video on certain channels like: THE BOX – we chose this channel is because this channel is a national wide all music video channel reaching over 20 million homes in the United States giving us a wide audience. It is also available in the United Kingdom. Specializing in rock, pop, R&B, hip-hop, Latin, and country. Over 170 individual boxes are located throughout the country, which allows each area to have its own custom local play list of videos to choose from. This will be mainly targeted at the seven years old to thirty year old age groups. Also we chose the MTV main channel. The reason we chose this channels is because it is a music channel, which is on a 24-hour video music network. MTV is an advertiser-supported, basic cable service of MTV networks. We would use this channel for promoting our music. By linking the video to a wider audience we would have more sales in records. A good example is to feature another famous artist in to the song from a different genre. ‘U R L' (Usher Record Label) is going to the record label. The label is going to have a picture of usher on it this will make the video sexually attractive to female customers. This will increase the sales. In the video the artist is showing he wants to break up with his girlfriend. Tamica plays the girl featured in the video. Usher sings he wants to be separate from her. Initial ideas that we have come up with are on how to structure each scene of the video, we are going to film each sentence in the song and for the chorus we are going to play the same scene each time. In the video each scene would go along with the music. This should look good and professional. In the video every scene is going to illustrate song lyrics. This is going to be done by having each sentence of the song being represented by an object, scenery, person/s and facial expressions. Our storyboards are going to help us a lot in making the video look realistic. This is because the storyboard will help us by illustrating to us how to achieve the right look and feel of the music videos, also what camera angles we want and lighting. When editing the video we must make sure the words of the song are in the right time of the videoing. If not done correctly then the video wouldn't look very effective. In our group we have decided that I am going to be the solo artist Usher, Courtney is going to the camera woman, Lisa is going to be casting in our video and Tamica is going to be the women in the video (Usher's Girl). My role is going to be difficult but I can achieve it by rehearsing the scenes and working together as a team. I need to make my music video look as real as possible so I can feel I have achieved making my video successfully.

Essay on How to Start a Business

I Want To Be a Businessman When I Grow Up In the middle and by the end of the 20th century when you asked a little boy, what he wanted to be when he grew up, the answer you were most likely to hear was an astronaut. What are the most popular answers nowadays? A bank owner and a businessman. The interesting thing is that this idea persists up to adulthood for many of the boys giving such answer. Except after they get a degree, it usually transforms into a more specific and allegedly more realistic goal of becoming a small business owner. But do they really know what it is like to be a businessman? And what appeal does such occupation have for so many young people? The biggest attraction is complete freedom. Young professionals right out of universities and colleges make their first attempts to enter the career world and become disillusioned having to face the harsh realities of working life. The bright images they had in their mind fade away when they realize that employers want them to work their guts out and will pay them peanuts for it. Now starting your own company seems like the perfectly logical thing to do. The problem is that full of rosy anticipations they do not take into account the difficulties they have to go through following this career path. They think about the opportunities, but forget about practical considerations. It’s important to keep in mind that courage and initiative are great things, but they are not sufficient to be successful in business.

Becoming a Physicians Assistant Essay Example For Students

Becoming a Physicians Assistant Essay When I was about four years old, I was asked the question that every child is asked: â€Å"What do you want to be when you grow up? † My response was a princess. A couple years later I was asked again and my response was a zoo keeper. When I was about thirteen they asked again and my response was a veterinarian. Now that I am a freshman in college the question is very serious. What do I want to be when I grow up? To be honest I would still really like to be a princess but that is far from an actual career and highly unlikely. The career I am looking into right now is a physician’s assistant. As a physician’s assistant, there are many key components to this job, like the work environment, the duties they have, and all of the different medical areas I could be involved in. For instance I could be in the emergency room, in pediatrics, or any area my heart desires. To become a physician’s assistant, one would need a bachelor’s degree and some type of health field related experience. Many applicants already have experience as registered nurses or as EMTs and paramedics before they apply to a physician assistant program (handbook). I am taking an EMT class in the summer to get my health field experience. Physician’s assistant’s education includes classroom and laboratory instruction in subjects such as pathology, human anatomy, physiology, clinical medicine, pharmacology, physical diagnosis, and medical ethics. The programs also include hundreds of hours of supervised clinical training in several areas, including family medicine, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and pediatrics. All of these classes and clinical hours will let me get the feel for the duties, the different areas, and see the work environment. A physician’s assistant practices medicine on a team under the supervision of a physician or surgeon . They are educated to examine patients, diagnose injuries and illnesses, and provide treatment. They work in physician’s offices, hospitals, and other healthcare settings.. They make 90,930 annually and about 43. 72 per hour. They typically work long hours. Most physician assistants work full time. In hospitals, physician assistants might work nights, weekends, and/or holidays. They might also be on call, meaning that they must be ready to go to work with little notice. Physician assistant work can be both physically and emotionally demanding. They spend most of their time on their feet, making rounds and evaluating patients. Physician assistants who work in operating rooms most likely stand for extended periods. Even though the work is stressful and demanding it is really rewarding in the end. Physician’s assistants have many duties. They review patient’s histories, they conduct physical exams to check the person’s health. Physician’s assistants diagnose tests like x-rays and blood tests, and they can fix injuries or illnesses. They can also give treatments like setting bones and immunizing. They also educate and counsel patients and prescribe medicine and record patient’s progress. They can basically do everything a doctor can do under the supervision of a doctor. Many physician’s assistants work in a physician’s office, or hospital and other healthcare settings. According to the bureau of labor statistics, Physician assistants held about 86,700 jobs in 2012. The industries that employed the most physician assistants in 2012 were as follows: Offices of health practitioners-58%, Hospitals; state, local, and private- 23%, Outpatient care centers -7%, Government- 4 %, and Educational services; state, local, and private- 3% . Physician assistants, who can perform many of the same things as doctors, are expected to have a larger role in giving routine care because they are more cost effective than physicians. As more physicians retire or enter specialty areas of medicine, more physician assistants are expected to take on the role of primary care provider. .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea , .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea .postImageUrl , .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea , .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea:hover , .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea:visited , .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea:active { border:0!important; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea:active , .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc6f06514b0922fb4509c9ce42c4e97ea:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Astrology EssayFurthermore, the number of individuals who have access to primary care services will increase as a result of federal health insurance reform. Theme of Blindness in Lear and Oedipus Essay Example

Theme of Blindness in Lear and Oedipus Paper Sometimes the blind can see more than the sighted. During a scary movie or a horrific event, people may cover their eyes, choosing not to see the truth. As human beings, we often become entrenched in the material world, becoming oblivious to and unable to see the most apparent truths. Oedipus, the main character in Sophocles play Oedipus Rex, could not see the truth, but the blind man, Teiresias, saw it plainly. Sophocles uses blindness as a motif in the play Oedipus Rex. Oedipus, known for his intelligence, is ignorant and therefore blind to the truth about himself and his past. Yet, when Teiresias exposes the truth he is shunned. It is left to Oedipus to overcome his blindness, realize the truth, and accept fate. Oedipus, who bear the famous name, fled his home of Corinth in fear of fulfilling the prophecy that he would kill his father and marry his mother. During his flight, he Oedipus kills a caravan of presumed low-class travelers. Oedipus comes into Thebes a stranger and hero who solved the riddle of the sphinx. Believing that he is blessed with great luck, Oedipus marries the recently widowed Iokaste and becomes King of Thebes. After many years, a plague vexes the city and Kreon, brother of Iokaste, comes to Oedipus with news from the oracle. He states that the plague will be lifted when the murder of Laios is avenged. Oedipus claims that he sees and understands the terrible fate of Thebes and vows to find the murderer. Since the criminal is said to still be in Thebes, Oedipus believes that a man of his intelligence should have no difficulty in finding the perpetrator. Unwillingly, Teiresias the blind seer provides Oedipus with the hurtful truth. Although before the truth is announced, Oedipus describes Teiresias as a seer: student of mysteries. Oedipus looks to Teiresias for help in finding the murderer of the former king. He is trusted and respected by everyone in the city as evidenced by his introduction as the holy prophet In whom, alone of all men, truth was born. Yet, when Teiresias speaks, reluctantly but honestly to Oedipus, he is shunned and his credibility and motives are attacked. Oedipus accuses Teiresias of plotting against him and helping Kreon become king. He claims that Kreon has brought this decrepit fortune-teller, this collector of dirty pennies, this prophet fraud to him. Sadly, the citizens represented by the chorus, who once trusted Teiresias, will not side with him because there is no proof that h is prophecy is true. Within one conversation, the lavish praise of Teiresias crumbles into Oedipus hatred of him. Responding to Oedipus attacks, Teiresias tells him you with both your eyes you are blind: You can not see the wretchedness of your life, Nor in whose house you live, no, nor with whom. Who are your father and mother? Can you tell me? You dont even know the blind wrongs That you have done them, on earth and in the world below. Although, Oedipus and the citizens of Thebes do not know the truth, the audience understands that Teiresias represents insight, therefore his wise words should be perceived as prophecies of events to come and morals to learn. Teiresias though physically blind can see better or more clairvoyant than Oedipus who has perfect vision and yet still blind to the truth. In the same dialogue, Teiresias foreshadows the double lash of your parents curse will whip you. Out of this land someday with only night Upon you precious eyes. Leaving with the last word, Teiresias exits the stage telling Oedipus the truth once more. It is not till the confession of the Shepherd and the suicide hangin Now with the truth of himself realized, Oedipus is filled with grief and guilt. He blinds himself, left forever with the knowledge of the destruction and shame he has brought on his family. He says goodbye to daughters because he must live the rest of his life in exile and die where his parents intended, the wild hills of Kithairon. Oedipus blinding himself symbolizes his increase of knowledge, his sensitivity, and gives him the ability to finally see. He is now able to recognize the flaws of his hubris and the consequences of which his pride brought him. The same theme appearing in most Greek stories applies to Oedipus; the will of the gods is ultimate, and one must live humbly.
